Five to Survive
The Top 5 Disaster Vehicles You Can Own
When it’s time for zombie plague outbreak survival, or when you’re planning to live on your own homestead off the grid, you want to have a variety of vehicles at your disposal. The terrain will be different depending on where you live and where you want to get to, so you have to plan for everything in between.
#1 – Trucks or SUVs are good for carrying lots of items for a short-term emergency situation. They’re durable and can help you pass over things that a regular small car may not make it past.
#2 – Motorcycles, Bikes and 4 Wheelers are important because it allows you to get through certain obstacles without a lot of room necessary to get by. They’re also good for going off road.
#3 – Boats, Canoes and Amphibious Craft are perfect if you have any need to go in or on the water. You might start with a small water craft and build up to a formidable yacht that would take you seaward if you needed to go that route.
#4 – Campers and Trailers are great for families who want to have a bit more protection than what a tent allows for – and they’re portable without having to pack up and set up every time you need to move. Trailers can store supplies for you while campers give you a readymade shelter.
#5 – Horses aren’t usually considered a vehicle, but it’s important that you have a way to navigate without fuel, and animal transportation is the way they did it in the old days and it isn’t too good for us in a crisis now.
If you are building a homestead somewhere other than where you live now, and storing vehicles at another property, make sure you maintain their care. A car that goes unused can develop flat tires and basically rot in its shell if enough time goes by without it getting turned on and maintenanced.
Consider getting some additional accessories for your vehicles, like fuel bladders that you can fill up and take with you in case gas stations aren’t working or aren’t in your vicinity. Luggage racks might also help if you have more to carry than what your trunk allows for.
Consider getting the best off road tires you can afford. There may be many cases where the roads are blocked with obstacles, or they’re simply not safe to travel openly – and you’ll want tired you can depend on to take you off into unpaved terrain.
Which Outbreak Survival Vehicles Should You Own?
Flashy cars are certainly a status symbol – and there’s nothing quite like cruising to the beach in a newer model convertible with the top down and the wind on your face. Except the flash won’t do you any good when a disaster strikes.
When a disaster strikes, many people become stranded because the roads are impassible to ordinary cars. Debris clogs the roads – and if you try to take a flashy little car over debris on the road or through the slick mud covered trails, you’re not going to make it very far.
You have to have a vehicle that’s not going to wimp out when there’s a little trouble on the road. You need to get a four wheel drive that will give you the traction you need when things get a little rough.
Not only do you need a four wheel drive, but you have to have something that gives you some space. Having a small four wheel drive is okay if it’s just you. It’s okay if you and your family want to run up to the corner supermarket, but loaded down with all the gear you need to take, that small four wheel drive isn’t going to make the cut.
So get a vehicle that offers you all the room you and your family will need to pack it up and haul out of any bad situation. You want something that’s easy to maneuver – so that doesn’t mean that you have to go out and buy a truck with monster wheels.
You need to be able to get the vehicle through the area you want to go. So a good rule of thumb is to get a vehicle that can handle going off the road and make sure that you, your family and all of your bug out gear can easily fit into it.
Sometimes, not even a decent vehicle is going to cut it when the road floods. To make sure you’re covered by land or by water, you should have a survival boat. Don’t waste your time on an inflatable boat for long term use.
The debris in the water will make sure it doesn’t last very long. You want something that your family can bug out in – but something that will also provide shelter if you have to stay on it for several days.
In the best scenario, a boat is merely a means of getting where you need to go, but the great thing about boats is that you can buy one that’s big enough to hold all of the equipment you need to survive temporarily.
You also want to have a 4 wheeler. The reason you want to have a 4 wheeler is in case you need to get out and your vehicle can’t make the trip out. You can use the 4 wheeler to transport yourself and family members (even if you have to make several trips) to an area where your boat or an alternative escape means awaits.
Top 5 Outbreak Survival Gadgets to Consider
Surviving in any outbreak situation means that you have to have the gadgets that can help you. While there are many tools available that offer to help ensure survival, there are five top gadgets that no one should be without.
These are all items that contribute to your safety and need for food, water and shelter. These are gadgets that will make your experience in survival mode easier.
A solar powered charger for your cell phone and radio will help ensure that you can call for help if you need to. There are gadgets available that are a 3 in 1. This means you can charge your cell phone, have a radio and a flashlight all contained one easy to carry gadget.
Portable solar cookers are great gadgets to have. They set up anywhere and provide a method for you to cook on and boil water for clean supplies in an instant. You can use this at home too when the power’s gone out.
A good UV water purification tool – which looks like a wand and purifies your water in just under a minute – can help you achieve safe drinking water in a flash. No more pills to buy, just let these gadgets do their work.
A flint and knife bracelet is the perfect pairing for survival experts. It’s a little corded bracelet that fits around your wrist and gives you immediate access to a fire starter and a sharp knife right away.
A tent hammock is another gadget that’s perfect for survivalists to own. Not only do you get protection from outside intruders like mosquitoes, but you’re lifted off the ground to protect you from water or land animals.
There are so many survival gadgets being created to help people get prepared. There are containers that create power from any form of liquid, clothes that repel bugs just based on the materials they’re made from, and solar backpacks that have a solar panel soaking up the sun while you trek around so that you can use the energy it absorbs later.
You always want to make sure that all of your basic needs are met and prepared for before you begin investing in cool gadgets. It’s much better to have a 6-month supply of MREs for the family than to own the latest bug out gear.
But once you have the necessities met, it’s perfectly fine to begin upgrading your efforts with items that contribute to your convenience. Having to be in survival mode is hard enough – so anything that makes the experience less traumatic will help you get through it.
Zombie Survival Armor Is a Necessity for Violent Emergency Situations
Whenever a natural disaster happens, you’ll see news headlines touting the bravery and the goodness of many citizens. Yet, there’s always a dark side to every emergency. People that are not there to help, that think only of themselves and what they want seem to come out in legions to take advantage of or to harm others whenever there’s a disaster.
You can bet that those people will do whatever they have to do to get what they want. Which means that you need to make sure that you’re well protected and can survive a violent attack. When chaos breaks out, looters come out in droves.
When a difficult situation persists such as a lack of food or water, it can lead to a herd mentality and mobs of angry people bent on destruction and not caring who they hurt. They may try to take supplies from you to meet their own needs.
Or worse, they may want to harm you or your family for no apparent reason at all. Throughout history, mobs have been known to assault, rob and even murder others. To protect yourself, you need to add survival armor to your supplies.
Survival armor can be the difference between living and ending up as a tragedy. There are several different types of body armor you can buy but what most people get is upper body armor known as vests.
These vests have openings where plates of various materials can be placed. These are often referred to as trauma plates and the best materials used in them can be steel, ceramic or titanium. You’ll want to read the label to see what kind of material the vest contains.
Most assailants will attempt to stab or shoot a person in the upper torso, which is the reason for the popularity of these body armor vests. These vests can deflect knife thrusts and stop bullets.
Most of these vests are made from a material known as Kevlar, which is material made of layered synthetic fibers that’s extremely strong. Vests offer users protection from the front, back and sides and many of the vests have openings for plates that can even stop bullets fired from a machine gun.
You want the best body armor that you can buy. If you plan to buy your vest online, you need to be aware that some companies will label their vests as ‘tactical’ which is a term sometimes used in conjunction with law enforcement, when they’re actually just gear carrying vests.
You can also choose to add a groin protector with soft armor pieces you can put inside to shield your body from an attack. Other body armor that can be useful during a violent situation are helmets that can protect against a head injury during an assault and are also strong enough to deflect a bullet.
To protect against shrapnel, some people also buy blankets known as bomb blankets. These blankets are made of a material that can protect you against pipe bombs and hand grenades.
Comparing Survival Arms for Your Buying Consideration
Being prepared to protect your family is a wise way to live your life. In ordinary situations, most people won’t ever have to deal with using a weapon to keep their loved ones safe.
However, situations have been occurring where it’s vital to have the right weapon and know how to use it. The media is full of stories where citizens have been called on to fight back.
During survival mode, you want a weapon to stop an intruder or an attacker. The best weapon to stop an intruder or an attacker is a gun. Most people bent on causing harm to others will stop when faced with a gun.
The question you may wonder is, “Which gun is the best survival gun?” That depends on the situation you’re dealing with. A shotgun is the best in some circumstances, but in others, you’ll want a handgun.
Those who aren’t familiar with guns will often use words interchangeably to define more than one gun. For example, rifles and shotguns or pistols and revolvers, but they’re not identical.
Whichever gun you choose, make sure that the ammunition is readily available. You’ll see hand guns with various names like Smith & Wesson, Taurus or Sig Sauer. Some guns can be used with only one hand, such as a pistol, while others, like a shotgun are best used with two hands.
While some survivalists like revolvers, they don’t hold enough ammunition and taking the time to reload them can take too much time when seconds count. If you want a fast reload, you need to take a look at a semi-automatic pistol. Semi-automatic pistols are popular for protection because you don’t have to wait to reload before firing the gun again.
Once the first bullet is in the chamber (via the slide action) and the gun is fired, the next bullet will automatically drop into the chamber. So you can keep shooting to scare off or stop those who would harm your family. There are different types of these pistols including the Glock, which is used by law enforcement. These are tough, durable pistols.
Owning rifles is a must-have for your family’s safety. The kind of rifle you buy will determine the distance it can shoot as will the kind of expertise you have with shooting. A rifle can shoot with a longer range than a pistol.
You want a gun that will stop attackers before they get near your home and you want a gun that will handle close encounters as well. Most survivalists use a variety of guns rather than relying on one type.
Guns aren’t just used for protection, either. Make sure you consider having hunting rifles on hand if you and your family end up having to live off the land and need to hunt for meat.
Survival Supplies You Should Be Storing Long-Term
Surviving long-term after a disaster will depend on how well you prepared before the disaster struck. You need to gather what you need to survive right now. You can store the items in a cool, dry place and have it on hand for when it’s needed.
There are four important things you have to remember when preparing for long-term survival. Those four things are: the need for shelter to be safe from the elements, first aid, food and water and the ability to protect yourself from people or animals that would attempt to harm you.
Long-term supplies to set aside for safety from the elements should be tents for each member of the family if you’re going to use single man tents, sleeping bags, thermal blankets and ponchos.
Safety from the elements also includes the ability to keep warm if necessary. You’ll need an axe for cutting wood for fires, a way to start a fire – such as waterproof matches or a lighter, gloves and a multi tool.
For first aid survival, you’ll need a first aid kit that includes insect repellent, personal hygiene items and field dressings. You’ll need tweezers, scissors and a surgical kit. You may not know how to close a large wound, but in case you have to save a life, you should know this information. You can keep a how-to guide on hand with your supplies. Make sure you have supplies that will treat teeth or eye problems too.
You should be able to protect yourself and your family from harm. Some people choose to arm themselves with guns and ammunition. If you choose to do that, make sure you store the ammunition in a waterproof box.
In the event that long-term survival is needed, your food supply should already be on hand. You’ll want foods that can store for years without the possibility of spoil. Start with your basic foods – like sugar, coffee, powered milk and staples like flour and salt.
Foods that will keep stored for many years are peanut butter, beans and rice. Canned foods are an excellent choice to have on hand as long as you have a handheld can opener. An electric one won’t do you much good if the power is out!
Store up canned foods like chili, fruits, soups and meats like tuna, salmon, and chicken. Trail mix, beef jerky and powdered juices can all be safely stored for years. If you prepare now, you can make homemade canned items like fruits and vegetables that can last until they’re needed.
When you’re storing foods that are in packages, you’ll need to put those down into a container to keep them safe from insects or mice. You can buy bulk supplies of MREs (meals ready to eat) that can feed an entire family for a year or longer.
Have communication sources like a cell phone and a battery operated CB radio. You’ll want to get LED flashlights and lanterns, waterproof bags for clothing and you’ll want to have a way to clean your clothes. Store a laundry board and a five gallon bucket with some laundry soap and bleach.
Because stress can build quickly in a long-term survival event, store games and other stress busters with your supplies, especially if you have children.
Are Zombie Ebola Survival Bunkers Necessary
Survival bunkers are sometimes referred to as bomb shelters. These bunkers are shelters constructed of various materials that you can use to keep your family safe during a disaster.
They’re a good idea to have because you can stay protected from an attack or other dangers. Having a safe place for your family to retreat has always been a good idea and many years ago, FEMA used to have pamphlets that taught how to build shelters.
When most people envision a bunker, they automatically think of those old fall out shelters from years ago that were fairly primitive. Or they think of something like the one shown in the movie ‘Blast from the Past’ which was an underground shelter built to look exactly like the home the couple had lived in. The shelter was stocked with years’ worth of non perishables.
Survival bunkers are not anything like those old shelters but they can range from primitive, just the necessities – to luxurious accommodations that have a few thousand feet to live in. You can find some of these bunkers listed in various real estate market guides.
Some of them look like very lovely underground homes, but they can be below or above ground. They can be constructed from the freight containers hauled by 18 wheelers, built in the basement of your home or built as a stand alone in another location.
They can be made of steel or built in a silo. They can even be built into the cellar of a home. You can build whatever you like because there are no right or wrong ways to build a survival bunker as long as it can do what it’s intended to do – which is to protect your family.
Regardless of where they’re built, the purpose of these shelters is to protect your family from a natural or man made disaster or from the force of a bomb exploding. These can be fireproof and even include a gun vault room.
You need a survival bunker in the case of civil unrest, war, terrorism or government upheaval. Dangerous weather like tsunamis or hurricanes show the need for a bunker. If there is ever a nuclear bomb targeted toward the U.S., your family could safely retreat to a bunker.
You can build one yourself, work with a group to construct one or hire a professional company that specializes in building survival bunkers. The cost of the bunker will depend on what you use and who builds it.
Preparing for the worst by having a survival bunker, even if you don’t ever use it, will give you peace of mind. Make sure it’s well stocked, easy to access, yet hidden away from prying eyes, and secure to prevent others from forcing their way in.

Preparing for Water Stores in the Event of a Pandemic
If things go bad, you may lose the ability to have water in your home the way that you’ve always depended on it in the past. In a pandemic, a water supply can suddenly become unusable.
The water supply can become compromised at any time. This is why you often see those boil advisories on the news. You need to be prepared by stockpiling water as soon as possible.
The water must be stored away from any direct sunlight. Warm water is an invitation for bacteria to grow and has the potential to make you sick. So you’ll need to keep the water stored in a cool area.
After you get your supply in, you need to look over it often to make sure it remains viable. Water can be stored in plastic bottles or jugs. Wash the bottles, soda bottles or any clear jugs and then fill them with water from your home.
You can also buy water barrels. These are 55 gallon barrels that are great for holding a large supply of water and you can find them online. They’re specifically for long-term water storage.
But you would also need to keep these away from direct sunlight. You can create a cistern for catching rainwater. What you do is position a barrel beneath any runoff areas of your home.
For example, you can place the cistern directly beneath your gutter pipe. Instead of the water going into the ground and getting wasted, it can be used for drinking or other water needs.
In a pinch, when you need a water supply, you can get it from rivers, ponds or lakes – but the water must be treated first before it’s safe to use. When you use water that you get or collect yourself, you need a filtering system.
The filter can clear your water of bacteria and other pathogens that can make you ill if you ingest them. There are different kinds of systems you can get – ranging from the very elaborate to the very simple pitchers and such as filtering straws.
Boiling the water you need to use for eating or drinking kills pathogens as long as the temperature of the water hits about 215 degrees Fahrenheit. Chemical ways to purify water includes using iodine.
You can get these in tablets or crystals. But you need to be aware that iodine does not kill some organisms. So use these only in a case where you have nothing else to use.
Camping Chlorine tablets are good to use to purify water (keep an eye on their expiration dates) and so is regular household bleach. If you use bleach, don’t use any brands that have additives. So don’t use scented bleach.
To make water safe to drink, put 1/4 of a teaspoon into every gallon of water you want to purify. So if you had a five gallon container of water you wanted to make safe for use, you would add a teaspoon of household bleach.
